Once upon a time it was the pits that brought communities across South Yorkshire together. This year it's the Miners' Gala of Denaby Main hosted by artist and Strike baby Rachel Horne that promises to be one for the history books.
Following some of traditions of a typical miners' gala Miss Horne's idea was to fuse the event with a music festival bringing all generations together like the pits once did.

QUOTES
Rachel Horne 25, Artist and Event Organiser
The support for this years gala has been incredible everyone is coming together for what I know is going to be an amazing party. I was over the moon at the first meeting we had when all the local bands and DJ's turned up to offer support. Because I really want the whole community to come together for the event and to create a platform for my generation, so we can showcase local dj's, artists and musicians and give the younger ones some good role models to look up too.
More than anything I want my generation and the younger one to be proud of our heritage and inspired by the politics of our fathers and grandfathers.
Paul Davey 25 Local DJ performing at the gala this year.
"The miners' gala is a really good opportunity for all generations especially the younger regions of the comunity. Its a chance for them to help out and be a part of something that they can look back on and see what they have achieved. With Denaby being a ex-mining village there really isn't that much in the form of things to do for the people who live in the area. You mainly tend to find quite a few people draw there attentions to music in the form of being musicians, whether being a part of a band or DJ'ing to keep themselves occupied. That's why we have got involved with Rachels Gala to help with putting a show together supplied by locals bands/groups and also DJ's to show that even though the area is not as booming as it was when the mines were around, we can still get together as a community and pull something good off.
