The FRINGE, Docaster Visual Artists
Warren Draper (0005)

Warren Draper (0005)

I am a writer, designer and experimental artist who enjoys merging the boundaries between disciplines - whether that be between techniques like 'painting and 'photography' or between philisophical classification like 'art' and 'science'. I am predominatly a digital artist and enjoy using technology in my work (machines are among our most under-appreciated artworks), but limited resources mean that I often have to resort to using older, 'end-of-use' equipment combined with Free Open Source Software and knowledge gleaned from the internet - an aproach I have come to call "Scabby Edge" as opposed to "Bleeding Edge". I particularly enjoy combining new technology with its redundant counterpart (for instance I'm currently working on ways to create letterpress printed designs from computer designed vector art).

For me the relationships between the artist and their audience are as important as the artwork itself. I am currently working on a new exhibition idea designed to question the relationship between the artist and the 'consumer' that, to a small degree, removes the mediation process created by the traditional idea of the gallery. My most experimental work is conducted under the assumed name, Kato Otak - a pseudonym I share with my friend and conspirator Tom Cullen.
